Wartime spurns many stories of victory and defeat. History books alone cannot explain the human experience during wartime.

The series of books written by L. Peter Wren gather other veterans’ true stories and personal experiences during WWII.

As one example, the USS Indianapolis was shrouded in secrecy because of its mission delivering atomic bomb parts to the Tinian Islands for final assembly.  Many have yearned to read the personal stories revealed inside.

However the USS Indianapolis did not operate alone in the Pacific Ocean.  Rescue ships were dispatched to assist the crew of the USS Indianapolis after the Japanese submarine torpedoed it.  The USS Bassett and the USS Ringness were two rescue ships of several ships on the scene pulling to safety surviving crew members and sailors floating in shark infested waters.  The rescue ships’ stories were mostly unknown prior to this series of books.

Peter Wren wrote his first book”Those in Peril on the Sea” in 1999 from his desire to not let these stories be lost.  Many servicemen contacted Wren to include their story.  The second book ‘We Were There”  in 2002 was written to include the numerous stories that were sent to Wren in either oral or written form.  Wren has taken great efforts to use the serviceman’s own words in each personal experience.  As more stories  were sent to Wren a third book was written in 2005, “World War II Revisited.”  The fourth book written “Battle Born” 2007 is based on the personal experiences of Charles Sehe and the USS Nevada’s role in both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans during WWII.

These books have been an avenue to share the stories from men and women Who Were There.  They did for their country what was asked of them.  Now they are ready to tell you their story.
